The production of consistently top class beef and breeding stock from cattle which have been reared in a natural, healthy environment utilising home produced feed. Born unassisted, from a cow wintered sympathetically but without concentrates, who herself was first calved down at 2 years old, raised the calf on her own without a fuss and got back in calf again.

At times a surprisingly tall order! Especially if you want to do the unthinkable and try to make some money as well.

After experimenting with various breeds over the years, the performance of three Angus bulls and their progeny indicated a return to pure Angus may be prudent to achieve our aims. Esmerman of the Moss, Election of Broxmouth and finally Paramount of Findhorn (an exceptional bull) all bred cows of the same perfect phenotype for our situation. A frame 6.5 to 7.5, structurally sound, easy care, quiet, long lasting cow with adequate milk to rear calves which went on to outgrow and out grade the progeny of the other continental cross cattle we had at the time. It has to be said however, that not all the Angus bulls we bought around this time were such a success. Too many lacked growth and conformation and some were just bad news structurally.

To find the right type, bred well but at sensible money and of a known health status was very difficult so, with a past steeped in pure Angus, we went back to breeding our own.
